Deckorators invented the low-maintenance aluminum baluster category – and that same drive toward better materials produced Surestone® technology: the only mineral-based composite decking backed by a 50-year structural warranty with removal and replacement coverage. We carry the full lineup at both our Illinois locations.

Deckorators decking - composite decking with SureStone Technology, Deck Railing and Outdoor Lighting.

Decking, Railing & Lighting Built Around One Standard

Two decking technologies – Surestone® mineral-based and traditional composite – plus a coordinated railing system and deck lighting, all manufactured in the USA.

SureStone® Mineral-Based Decking

Voyage, Vault, and Summit are built with Deckorators’ patented SureStone® technology – a mineral and polypropylene blend with zero wood fiber. Boards are 35% lighter than standard composite, absorb virtually no moisture, and are warranted for installation in direct ground contact and submerged in water. Backed by the industry’s only 50-year structural warranty that includes removal and replacement coverage.

Composite Decking

Vista, Venture, and Altitude are crafted in the USA from 95% recycled plastic and wood fiber, capped with a scratch- and stain-resistant polyethylene layer. Vista delivers exotic hardwood aesthetics with vertical grain patterning for improved traction. Venture offers clean, coastal tones at a value-friendly price point. Altitude adds fire-resistant performance for builds in wildfire-sensitive zones. All three carry a 25-year structural and stain & fade warranty.

Deck Railing Systems

Deckorators built the category for low-maintenance aluminum balusters – and that heritage shows across their railing lineup. Steel, aluminum, and composite rail systems in a range of profiles and finishes, designed to pair with Deckorators decking collections for a unified outdoor look. Mix post caps, balusters, and top rails to match your home’s architecture without custom fabrication costs.

Outdoor Deck Lighting

Post cap lights, step lights, and deck board lights that connect directly to Deckorators railing systems without separate power runs. LED fixtures keep energy draw low while delivering warm, ambient light across stairs, railings, and deck surfaces. Purpose-built for outdoor exposure – rated for moisture, UV, and temperature swings across all four seasons.

The Decking Bar Has Been Raised

Most composite decking is made the same way: wood flour mixed with plastic, capped on top. Deckorators took a different path. Their Surestone® technology replaces wood fiber entirely with a mineral-based composite – a blend of minerals and polypropylene that produces a board with virtually zero water absorption, minimal thermal movement, and a strength-to-weight ratio no standard composite can match.

The practical result: Surestone® boards are 35% lighter than traditional composite, yet span longer distances between joists – which cuts framing costs on larger builds. They can be installed directly in ground contact or submerged in water without voiding the warranty, making them one of the few decking products genuinely suited for docks, pool surrounds, and below-grade patios.

Deckorators also holds the distinction of offering the only decking warranty in the industry that covers both removal and replacement – not just the board itself. On the traditional composite side, Vista, Venture, and Altitude are crafted in the USA from 95% recycled plastic with a polyethylene cap that resists scratching, staining, and fading across a 25-year coverage period.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Have questions about Deckorators products and materials?

What makes Deckorators different from other composite decking brands?

Deckorators invented the low-maintenance aluminum baluster category – and that same engineering approach produced Surestone® technology: a mineral-based composite that contains no wood fiber. That removes the root cause of moisture damage, mold, and organic decay that affects standard wood-plastic composites over time. Deckorators also holds the only decking warranty in the industry that covers the cost of removal and replacement – not just the replacement boards themselves.

What is Surestone® technology and how does it work?

Surestone® is Deckorators’ patented mineral-based composite technology. Instead of blending wood flour with plastic – the approach most composite manufacturers use – Surestone® substitutes minerals for the wood component, mixed with polypropylene. The result is a board with virtually zero water absorption, minimal thermal expansion and contraction, a 35% weight reduction compared to standard composite, and an infrared-reflective cap that keeps the surface cooler in direct sun.

Can Deckorators decking be installed in ground contact or submerged in water?

Yes – Surestone® collections like Voyage and Vault are warranted for installation in direct ground contact and submerged in water. That makes them a legitimate choice for dock decking, pool surrounds, below-grade patios, and any application where standard composite or PVC decking would either void coverage or absorb water over time. Traditional composite lines like Vista and Venture are not rated for ground or water contact.

What warranty does Deckorators offer and what does removal and replacement mean?

Surestone® collections carry a 50-year structural warranty, a 25-year stain and fade warranty, and a 25-year removal and replacement warranty – the last of which is unique in the industry. Standard decking warranties cover the cost of new boards if a product fails. Deckorators’ removal and replacement coverage goes further by also paying the reasonable labor cost to remove the failed boards and install the replacements. Traditional composite lines carry a 25-year structural and 25-year stain and fade warranty.

What is the difference between Surestone® and traditional composite lines?

Surestone® lines – Voyage, Vault, Pioneer and Summit – use the mineral-based core: lighter, near-zero water absorption, suited for ground and water contact, 50-year structural warranty. Traditional composite lines – Vista, Venture, and Altitude – use a wood-plastic core capped with a polyethylene layer for stain and fade resistance. They’re made from 95% recycled plastic and sawdust, carry a 25-year warranty, and cost less than Surestone® boards. Both are manufactured in the USA.

Is Deckorators decking low maintenance?

Yes. Neither Surestone® nor traditional composite Deckorators boards require painting, staining, or sealing. Regular cleaning with mild soap and water is all that’s needed to keep them looking new. Surestone® boards won’t splinter, sag, chalk, or crack, and the infrared-reflective cap resists UV fading over the warranty period. Traditional composite lines use a scratch-resistant polyethylene cap for the same low-maintenance result at a lower price point.
