On a 7,500 square foot R‑4 lot with a house and a garage already on it, that cap rather than your budget is usually what fixes the deck size, and with it the board count.

Online only, through the Village portal, application type “Deck”. First review runs about 10 business days, comments answered inside five, inspections booked on 48 to 72 hours notice. Owners can apply themselves. Downers Grove licenses electricians, plumbers and roofers, not general contractors.
Three Local Rules That Catch People Out
- Stormwater. A deck counts as 60 percent impervious here, not zero. It will not trip the storage requirements on its own, since the 400 sq ft threshold excludes decks, but a big one can move a lot up a utility billing tier.
