Traditional Style
The Traditional profile features a classic routed top and bottom rail designed specifically to accept square and colonial vinyl balusters. It’s Wolf’s foundational railing style – the one that’s been on decks and porches across the country for decades. The rails are pre-routed with square holes that receive both vinyl square balusters and vinyl colonial balusters, giving you a choice between a clean geometric look and a more ornate turned profile without changing the rail component. Traditional sections are available in all five lengths and all six colors. The aluminum reinforcement inside the PVC extrusion gives the rail stiffness that pure vinyl can’t match, keeping spans tight and preventing the mid-span sag that plagues lower-end vinyl systems.
Designer Style
Designer uses a flat, wider top rail profile that reads as more contemporary than Traditional’s classic proportions. The rail is pre-routed to accept aluminum balusters, giving it a modern metal-and-white aesthetic without any of the corrosion or recoating concerns that come with a fully metal railing system. Glass balusters are also compatible with the Designer profile, allowing a genuinely high-end look at a PVC system price point. Section Length Determines How Many Kits You Need
Unlike some railing brands that only offer 6-foot and 8-foot panels, Wolf railing sections come in five lengths: 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10 feet. This flexibility makes it easier to minimize waste on non-standard deck dimensions – but it also means the section count isn’t a simple calculation. A 56-foot run broken into 8-foot sections uses seven complete sections. The same run in 10-foot sections uses six sections with a 6-foot remainder that would need a shorter section. Traditional and Designer rails are pre-routed for different baluster families and are not interchangeable. Traditional rails accept square and colonial vinyl balusters only. Designer rails are routed for aluminum and glass balusters. If you want the clean, contemporary look of aluminum balusters, you need the Designer profile. If you want colonial vinyl for a traditional porch, you need the Traditional profile. Stair Railing Uses the Same Style But Different Hardware
Wolf stair sections are ordered in the same style and color as your level-run panels – there’s no separate stair collection to navigate. Warranty Activation Requires Product Registration
